Fire Safety and Prevention

Canadian fire statistics reveal that hundreds of Canadians lose their lives or suffer injuries, and over a billion dollars in property is lost every year due to fire. Fire safety education, pre-planning and the practicing of evacuation procedures are key to maintaining a fire safe environment; these three aspects of fire safety and prevention ensure that people are prepared and are able to respond appropriately during a fire emergency.

Understanding the common causes of fire is often the first step in fire prevention. Knowing these causes and the hazards they create is essential to fire safety planning, and to developing an effective approach to fire safety.

In Canada, Fire Protection Services also facilitates the launch of Fire Prevention Week and promotes involvement in all areas of fire safety, fire prevention and loss control.
